Wind Guards for the Blackstone 17: Cooking Outside When It's Windy

  • Published on

These are small magnetic strips that close the gap between the cooktop and the burner box on our Blackstone 17 inch griddle. We bought them a while ago and forgot to ever write them up, until they showed up in our backup camera video and someone asked about them in the comments.

The problem they fix

On a windy day, air comes in under the cooktop at the sides, and the griddle just doesn't work right. That is how we put it in the video.

The guards cover that gap so the flame is not hit by the wind as much. Now we can cook on the Blackstone when it's windy.

What they are

They are a set of stainless steel strips with a black coating, so they look like they came with the griddle. Magnets hold them on, and they go on and come off in seconds. The longer pieces go on the sides and the shorter ones on the back. The listing gives the sizes as 13.8 by 1.4 inches for the side pieces and 6.3 by 1.4 inches for the back.

They work with the parts our griddle already has. Our 17 has the hood and the grease cup, and the guards sit under the cooktop without getting in the way of either.

You can see them in the video

Fabiola had just started the bacon at our campsite when we stopped to show them off. It is about a minute of the RV backup camera installation video, starting at 7:23, and it ends with a ta-da. The rest of that video is the four-camera install on our Brinkley.

Will they fit yours?

The seller lists these as fitting Blackstone 17 inch models 1650, 1814, 1832, 1933, 1939, 1945, 1971, 1783, 1859 and 1892, plus some other brands. Check your model number on the label before you order. If you have the 22 or 28 inch, these are the wrong size.

The listing also says you can leave them attached while you travel.

Where to get them

We bought these wind guards for the Blackstone 17 on Amazon. They are also in our Blackstone Grilling idea list with the rest of our griddle gear.

If you're still deciding on the griddle itself, here is why we picked the Blackstone 17 inch, and our full Blackstone and camp kitchen setup covers the table, the tools and how we cook on the road.
