Canyon Lodge Cabins, Yellowstone: Is a Night Inside the Park Worth $289?

  • Published on

Quick facts

  • Where: Canyon Lodge & Cabins, Canyon Village, inside Yellowstone National Park.
  • Cost: $289.14 for one night: $252.65 for the cabin, $28.66 in taxes, and a $7.83 property fee (August 2026, booked on Hotels.com).
  • Room: a Western Cabin with two queen beds.
  • Booking: the official Yellowstone lodging site was sold out. Fabiola found it on Hotels.com. Our rate was non-refundable.
  • Check-in: 4 p.m. Check-out 11 a.m.
  • Where the RV was: back at Red Rock RV Park in Island Park, Idaho.
  • When we stayed: one night, Friday, August 14, 2026.

For the first time since we started RV life, we left the RV behind and paid to sleep somewhere else. Our campground was a long drive from the park every day, and we wanted one night where we could stay late and wake up already inside Yellowstone.

Know what you booked

We thought we had booked a hotel room. At check-in we found out it was a cabin. That turned out fine, but read the room type carefully before you pay.

The cabin

A wooden key, two queen beds with log headboards, and cabin-style furniture. The Wi-Fi worked great and the shower had good pressure. There's no fridge, so bring a cooler. Breakfast in the lodge is cafeteria style.

Two small complaints. Nathan missed our RV mattress. And a blinking light on the smoke alarm on the ceiling kept him up. It isn't bright, but in a pitch-black cabin it felt like it.

Parking

There weren't enough parking spots near the cabins. We left the truck in a made-up spot near the road and didn't get a ticket, but don't count on a space right outside your door.

Was it worth it?

Yes. It's pricey, but we could stay out later, skip the drive back, sleep there, and start the next day right in the park. The Lower Falls were four minutes away. We got a lot more done and were a lot less tired than on the days we drove back and forth.

If you want to do the same, book earlier than we did; there may be cheaper options than the last-minute one we found.
