This was our home base for Yellowstone. It's a lovely park to come back to at night. The catch is the drive in and out every day.
The site
We had one of the premium spots, with a patio and a fire pit. We made a fire one night and had s'mores. The view is open range with cattle grazing and mountains behind it. When we first arrived, wildfire smoke hid the mountains, but it cleared out over the next few days and the view opened up.
Starlink and cell
Starlink worked great, because there are no trees in the way. Our phones worked too.
Laundry
There's a laundry room, but when we were there several of the machines were out of order, so we had to take turns.
Getting in, and getting to Yellowstone
The road to the park runs through the woods, and you'll be dodging cows that live out there. The park itself warns that moose, elk and antelope are often on the road, so drive slowly.
From there it's about 30 to 40 minutes to the West Entrance. When we were there, construction added anywhere from zero to 20 minutes, depending on when you hit it: a bridge being rebuilt, and some days road resurfacing too. Hopefully that's finished by the time you go.
Along the road toward the RV park there are boondocking spots in the woods. We haven't tried them, but if you're in boondocking mode they'd be a free option.
What we'd do differently
The park was nice. The drive was the cost. Next time we'd look for a campground or a boondocking spot closer to the entrance, or even inside the park at Fishing Bridge if our rig fits. For one night we did stay inside the park, at a Canyon Lodge cabin, and it made a real difference.
