  • Published on

Quick facts

  • Where: the RV campground at Ditto Landing, a marina in Huntsville, Alabama.
  • Cost: $173.50 for seven nights in 2025, about $25 a night.
  • Type: a small RV campground next to a boat marina, booked through Campspot.
  • Hookups: full hookups.
  • Our site: site 136, a back-in on a raised gravel pad.
  • Starlink: perfect. Zero trees.
  • Cell: we're fairly sure we had signal.
  • When we stayed: a week, May 31 to June 7, 2025, right after Gunter Hill.

This one was cool. It's a marina with a little RV campground beside it, and the sites are spread out enough that it felt like we were out in the wilderness, even though we were on the road that loops around the campground.

The back-in, with an audience

Our site was a back-in, and we had a lot of trouble with it. The pads are raised, so you have to maneuver the trailer around and keep it up on the elevated platform the whole way back. Our neighbors clearly saw that we were new at this. They settled into their truck on a smoke break and watched the whole thing, and when we finally got in, they gave us a round of applause.

If you're new to backing in, take your time here, and have someone spot you so the wheels stay on the pad.

Tall grass and the first black widow

When we arrived, the grass around the sites hadn't been mowed, and the fire pit was out in the tall grass, so we tried not to walk through it. They did come and mow it all later, but it had a rustic feel at first.

This is also where Nathan found his first black widow in the wild. It was on the underside of the water hookup box cover, right where you reach in to connect your hose. He killed it. Lift those covers carefully, and look before you reach in.

The marina and Huntsville

You can walk or drive a short distance to the marina, which has a little store and a park to walk around. Huntsville itself is a cool town. We went to a brewery and found plenty worth checking out.

Would we stay again?

Yes. Full hookups, open sky, room to breathe, and a good price. Just bring your best back-in, and maybe expect applause.
