Johnson County Park, Indiana: Full Hookups Next to an Empty Horse Park

  • Published on

Quick facts

  • Where: Johnson County Park, 2949 E North Road, Edinburgh, Indiana, just off I-65. The park includes the Hoosier Horse Park.
  • Type: county park campground.
  • Hookups: full hookups at our site.
  • Sky: no trees in the way, so good for Starlink and solar.
  • Big rigs: the sites and the roads into them are a little tight.
  • Supplies: a small store at the check-in desk.
  • When we stayed: about a week in 2025, on our way north.

This one surprised us. You wind along a bunch of roads past wide open fields, and the campground sits next to a horse park full of equestrian competition fields. When we were there, nothing was happening on them, so it all felt built and ready but empty.

Getting into the site

The spots are a little tight, and so are the roads going into and out of each one. It had rained, everything was muddy and wet, and Nathan was still new at driving the RV, so it took some back and forth to get in. Under the mud the pad was sharp gravel, and the site wasn't level side to side, so we used blocks. Our stairs ended up out in the mud.

If you can, arrive when it's dry, and take your time on the tight turns.

Once you're in

Otherwise the spot was nice. We had full hookups, and there were no trees in the way, which would make it a good place for Starlink and solar if you weren't plugged in. It was a very peaceful campground. Bring bug spray for the mosquitoes.

The buildings are on the newer side, and there's a small store at the check-in desk for supplies.

Walks and small towns

The empty horse-show fields are a fun, strange place to walk. Franklin is a short drive away, with a downtown full of small shops, and there are other small towns nearby worth a look. We also had our first Indiana pork tenderloin sandwich on this stop.

Would we stay again?

Yes, ideally when it hasn't just rained. The whole muddy week is in our mud and mishaps video.
